Cross-Fertilized Research Training for New Investigators in Egypt and India

Submitted by ccornely on

This research based training proposal is designed to build expertise in intervention research in schizophrenia (SZ), a common, chronic, disabling disorder that entails severe burden on patients and care givers. Medications, the mainstay of treatment for SZ provide only symptomatic relief and fail in the majority of cases, but pharmaceutical firms have slowed their research efforts due to uncertainty about the pathogenesis of SZ. These problems are magnified in low / middle-income countries (LMIC), where new medications are expensive and trained personnel are scant.

Submitted by ccornely on

We propose to establish the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) HIV Research Training Program in Mozambique (Pitt HRTP). The purpose of the program is to build research capacity at the Catholic University of Mozambique, located in the port city of Beira, for the conduct of HIV clinical trials. This program is an extension of the Pitt AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP), which was established in 1998 and has been building research capacity at UCM since 2009.
