Dear Colleagues,
Please register your biorepository at the link found below if you are in charge of an existing collection of biological specimens and samples. Registration of your biorepository is mandatory; MTA requests will not be approved without completion of this process. When you register your biorepository, the data are included in the Pitt Biorepository Database (PBD). Inclusion of your biorepository data in this database is not implicit agreement on your part to share samples or collaborate with anyone.
Your Biorepository ID# will be emailed to you within 48 hours of completion of the registration. If you already registered your biorepository and do not have the id number, you may obtain it at www.pbd.pitt.edu (accessible only from Pitt and UPMC computer networks). If you need assistance or a more rapid response, then contact Paul Wood.
The Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for the Health Sciences strives to provide resources that serve the needs of a large number of investigators across the six schools of the Health Sciences. There have been requests for a comprehensive listing (database) of biorepositories, the use of which will enable new collaborations, themselves leading to new opportunities for research funding. Faculty investigators who are new to the University can use this tool to explore the landscape of ongoing research studies for which sample collections are required and to find potential collaborators.
The goal in establishing this database is to maximize the utility of samples already collected by providing investigators with the samples that they need without having to resort to unnecessary collection of additional biospecimens. And, this fulfills the biorepository registration requirements of the Schools of the Health Sciences.
Registration takes less than 10 minutes to complete for each biorepository. You may return to complete, edit, or assign an alternate person to complete the registration using the "Get Link" or "Save and return later" buttons. If you are not the principal investigator for a biorepository held by your laboratory, then please coordinate completion of the survey with the PI.

The Pitt BioSpecimen Database is being built as a cooperative venture of the Office of Research, Health Sciences, the Institute for Precision Medicine, and the Department of Biomedical informatics. The registration page and database are built in RedCAP, which is a CTSI resource. It fulfills the registration requirements of the Schools of the Health Sciences.
