Algorithms to link signaling pathways with transcriptional programs for precision medicine

Submitted by stronach on

Cancers arise through the accumulation of genetic and epigenetic alterations that often target signal transduction pathways, leading to dysregulation of downstream transcriptional effectors and widespread gene expression changes. Since many targeted therapies are small molecule inhibitors of signal transduction proteins or monoclonal antibodies against growth factor receptors, deciphering the signaling pathways that are deregulated in a given tumor in order to personalize therapy is a major goal of cancer genomics.

Pittsburgh Biomedical Informatics Training Program

Since 1998, the Pittsburgh Biomedical Informatics Training Program (BMITP) has provided advanced training in the application of computing to challenging problems in biomedicine. In addition to our long history, our program is notable for continuous evolution of our programs, a highly collaborative research environment, and strong institutional support from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). BMITP is housed in the Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) in Pitt’s School of Medicine.
