UPMC Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Support (OSPARS)
The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Support (OSPARS) promotes and facilitates the research, education, and outreach missions of UPMC by supporting and administering administration of sponsored programs and sponsor-initiated clinical trials.
OSPARS facilitates sponsored programs and clinical trials by assisting in reviewing and endorsing proposals, negotiating agreements, accepting and authorizing awards, interpreting sponsor rules and guidelines, and providing post-award administration services.
All clinical trials involving UPMC facilities and/or UPMC personnel must adhere to certain policies and procedures. The purview of OSPARS is to facilitate the review, execution, and approval for all industry-initiated clinical trials at UPMC, as well as, investigator-initiated studies led by non-University investigators/staff (e.g., UPMC physicians not having a University of Pittsburgh affiliation, private physicians having no University affiliation).
