Pittsburgh Center for Kidney Research Request for Pilot Projects

This is a request for members of the University of Pittsburgh faculty to submit Pilot Project proposals. Our George O’Brien Kidney Research Core Center (P30 DK079307) at the University of Pittsburgh (http://www.kidneycenter.pitt.edu/) will support a minimum of two new Pilot Projects for one to two years in duration in the amount of $30,000/year (direct costs) beginning August 1, 2017.

Center Pilot Projects are intended to support kidney-related research for (1) newly independent investigators without current or previous R01 or VA Merit Review funding; (2) established investigators with limited previous kidney-related research; or (3) established renal investigators proposing innovative ideas that represent a clear departure from ongoing research directions. Selection of Pilot Projects will be based on their scientific merit, the overall innovative or novel nature of the project, the likelihood that the work will lead to external funding, the use of the Center’s core facilities, and on meeting eligibility criteria. Applicants are encouraged to describe how the Center’s core facilities will be utilized. It is anticipated that funded Pilot Projects will subsequently be developed into successful applications for independent research support.

To apply, please provide a brief description your proposed pilot project, limited to three pages (not including references). It is important that you provide a brief outline of how you meet the eligibility criteria outlined above. In addition, please provide an updated NIH biosketch, including other support, as well as the “working title” of your proposed project.

Proposals are due May 5, 2017 and should be submitted in electronic format to:
