NIH Director’s Early Independence Awards (DP5)
The University of Pittsburgh may submit two nominations for the NIH Director’s Early Independence Awards (DP5). This highly competitive program “supports exceptional investigators who wish to pursue independent research directly after completion of their terminal doctoral/research degree or clinical residency, thereby forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training period …”
Eligibility (see http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-RM-14-004.html for more details):
The individual must have received (or will receive) his or her terminal doctoral degree (or completed clinical residency) between June, 2016 and September 30, 2018. In addition, at the time of application, the applicant must not have served as a post-doctoral fellow following a previous doctoral degree for more than one year. See https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-RM-17-008.html for full details on eligibility.
Prospective candidates should contact appropriate Institutional leaders to seek an appointment in an independent research position. The Institution will be expected to provide substantial support for the junior scientist as detailed in the full announcement.
To be considered as a candidate for the University’s nomination, please see the entry for this solicitation in the University’s Competition Space (https://upitt.infoready4.com/#competitionDetail/1759811).
